KHAN ACADEMY

The Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization, began in 2006 as a tidy collection of math and science tutorial videos from its founder Salman Khan, a hedge-fund analyst who had posted the material to help friends and relatives. He started with the stated mission of "providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere." The project is funded by donations.

The idea was conceptualised by him while teaching his cousin online who was more comfortable with his youtube videos rather than Salman in person. This encouraged him to take this social cause forward. Now this project is funded by donations. It receives fund from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and Google. Google has listed it as top 10 ideas having potential to change the world. Lot of people have donated big amount to the organization.

Khan believes his academy points an opportunity to overhaul the traditional classroom by using software to create tests, grade assignments, highlight the challenges of certain students, and encourage those doing well to help struggling classmates. Also every student is unique and learns at his own pace. The tutorials can be paused, revised and revisited again and again without the fear of being reprimanded for slow learning, while a classroom lecture cannot be.

The major components of Khan Academy include

• a video library with over 3200 videos in various topic areas and over 165 million lessons delivered.
• automated exercises with continuous assessment
• peer-to-peer tutoring based on objective data collected by the system

Theory X and Theory Y Learning

What Khan Academy has done is the best example of theory Y concept. Whether Employees are lazy or not and managers always assume that their employees are not lazy. This theory shows positive thinking. No matter how slow a student is in learning, Khan Academy gives you the freedom to go on your pace. He believes majority of students are good, given a chance everyone can excel.

Creative Thinking

Khan academy is the perfect example of innovation. It is transforming the entire education system with the vision of Salman Khan. This person showed a simple solution to the growing problem of our education system, which is exam based to judge a student’s ability. It also shows us that we don’t always require a large amount of resources to create something different. Sometimes it can just happen with the help of things that are easily available around us.

He left a fat salary job for his passion. To get success it is very essential to do our job with a great sense of enthusiasm. He didn’t care about himself and started a non profit organization to serve the purpose of free and new way of learning for all student communities who are unable to attend regular classroom education. The mission of this institution is "To accelerate learning for students of all ages."
